Hwaseong Fortress

On Saturday I took the subway out to Suwon, where there is an awesome fortress.  During the Japanese occupation of Korea many of the traditional buildings were torn down to make way for more modern government buildings, hospitals, etc.  We started our visit with walking about half of the outer wall, which is a decently long hike.  We finished our trip with a visit to the palace which had displays of period clothing, armor, and daily activities.

Because why pay somebody to pick up the arrows?

  1. Wil, first of all you look like a ninja at the fortress. Now 3 questions:

    1. What's with the big bell? I'm assuming a Buddhist temple?
    2. What's with the FB pillow fight? Is that just something Korean people like to do or is that what all jet-setting American kids are into these days?
    3. Where can I get one of those cool cars like the one pulling the trams?

  2. This is the coolest thing ever, way neater than Spain's fortresses. I love the dragon tram.

    1. The big bell was for signaling/alarm at the fotress.

    2. The pillow fight was organized by one of the international students and was a lot of fun!

    3. I assume that you could get a dragon tram here in Korea somewhere...

  4. I have my own questions:
    1. What's with the children playing with lethal weapons?
    2. Is that the "Korean 15" I see on your frame in the ying n yang superheroes pose?

That looks like a great day trip. Where are you going next?
